No. Acupuncture is an art as well as a science. Each acupuncturist develops
her or his own style and abilities over the years as she or he practices.
I believe my acupuncture practice is unique in many respects:
My history with Acupuncture is a long and interesting one. It all started
when I was a child. I can remember when I was a baby and wondering when,
where and how I was going to learn Acupuncture. I don't know how I knew
what it was, but I did. As a child I borrowed my mother's sewing needles
and spent long hours after school discovering the Acupuncture points and
meridians on myself and sometimes on my more daring friends.
I grew up in Northern California during the 1970s. Even though there weren't
many masters of Acupuncture here to study with then, it was the decade
of Kung Fu in America. A number of the Kung Fu teachers here at that time
knew about Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine. So while my contemporaries
were indulging themselves in things seventies, I immersed myself in the
world of Taoist arts, Kung Fu and Chinese culture.
At the age of fifteen, I left home to study Buddhism and meditation in
Sri Lanka. Among many other things, I learned about the native Ayurvedic
Medicine of that land and its indigenous healing rituals and practices.
By the age of eighteen I was studying Psychology and medicine in college
and arranging self-directed independent study courses in Central America,
Mexico and the Southwestern United States. It was in these places that
I began to learn about the incredible native medicines and practices of
the ancient cultures of the American continent.
My Acupuncture studies then took me to Taiwan, and from there, in an interesting
turn of events that I may be able to relate to you some other time, to
San Francisco. It was in San Francisco that I was at last able to focus
on studying Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine. This was a process
that earned me one of the first four Master of Science degrees in Traditional
Chinese Medicine granted in the United States.
After obtaining my California and National licenses I began to practice
Chinese Medicine in Sonoma and Marin Counties. Yet my ongoing study and
love for the ancient medical sciences and traditions has continued through
the years. This journey has led me deep into the world of the Taoists,
on incredible adventures through the highlands of Central Mexico with
Aztec Shamans, to initiatory rites deep in the mountains and jungles of
Central and South America with mystical indigenous teachers and healers
and so much more that continues to this day.
This is the wealth of experience and wisdom I bring to you in my Acupuncture
and Chinese Herbal practice. Because of my love for and experience with
these ancient and profound medical sciences, I am able to help you approach
the heart of what each of these systems attempts to achieve; truly holistic
healing on every level.
